History of The Brazen Head

The site of The Brazen Head has been serving travellers since the 12th century, originally as a hostelry. The current building dates back to 1754, opening as a coaching inn – a type of inn common across Europe that catered to both travellers and their horses, offering meals, drinks and rest.

Located beside Father Matthew Bridge, the original crossing of the River Liffey, The Brazen Head was a prime stop for passersby. Today, it retains much of its 18th-century charm, featuring small doorways, low ceilings and a cozy atmosphere perfect for enjoying a drink.
